Strato 1983

Rock, and loud: long solos and a guitar built to keep up. Maple neck and fretboard, a 16″ radius, jumbo frets — born to move fast, and it never pretended otherwise.

What sets it apart

  • Maple on both sides

Neck and fretboard in the same wood, like the super strats of the time. Maple is bright and quick: it gives back the attack of the note instead of softening it, and that is half the reason that era sounded the way it did.

  • 16-inch radius, jumbo frets

Sixteen inches of radius and tall frets: strings bend without the note choking out, and the finger presses the string onto the fret instead of onto the wood. It is the pair of measurements that makes fast playing comfortable, and the pair that era imposed on everyone.

  • Dual-action rod and two carbon bars

The truss rod corrects in both directions, and the two carbon fibre bars hold the neck still. A thin maple neck is the one that feels the change of seasons most: these are the two things that make it stable without making it thicker.
