What sets it apart

  • Carved from one block, not bent

    A historic 335 is built from bent sides and laminated plates, glued around a centre block. This one is not: the body is a single block of mahogany, hollowed inside into tone chambers and carved outside — carved on the top and on the back as well. Same acoustic idea, opposite construction: there are no joints where the grain changes direction, and what stays solid down the middle is the same wood as the wings, not a piece added to them.

  • Hollow, but with the centre block

    The two wings are hollow, the centre is not: a block of solid wood runs under the bridge and the pickups. That is what separates this from a true semi-acoustic — feedback at volume is not managed, it is avoided — and at the same time what leaves it the long tail of a body that breathes.

  • Set-neck only, and it is not a preference

    On this shape the neck is glued, full stop. A hollow body does not have enough solid wood where the neck ends: a bolted plate there would sit on a thin wall instead of solid stock, and under string tension it would move. On the Acheron the choice stays open; here it does not.
